MAGICAL ROADS OF PLUM BRADY AND RASPBERRY

Different roads lead to Serbia...This time, though, we will take you to an unusual road trip you haven’t tried before. That is the road that leads you to plum brandy and raspberry.
The old proverb says that if you want to get to know a country and its people, it is necessary for you to try their authentic food and drink.
The most favourite drink of the people from this area is without any doubt plum brandy. Join us on this extraordinary trip since we know secret passages and hidden doors that represent its destination.

Plum brandy has been and will always be a regular guest of all our celebrations, but sad occasions and troubled times as well. It follows us wherever we go; it gives us comfort when we are alone as well as enthusiasm and zest when in company of friends. There are many sorts of it but we most like the home made one – the real one.

Visitors will have a chance to learn history and the way of plum brandy production while tasting fruit brandies...

When you go to Mexico, you taste tequila. When in Greece, you are served ouzo, while in Russia you drink vodka. Serbs, as real hosts, will serve you plum brandy. So, join us on the most famous roads of plum brandy in Western Serbia!

People in Serbia know exactly where plum brandy has been bought since each family has its own ingredient that makes plum brandy good and specific.

We invite you to visit some of the families well known by producing plum brandy for centuries now. Those are the Bogdanovic and Ivanovic families.

Day 1
The road takes us first to Arilje – the raspberry capital, where you can visit the monument built by the local people to honour raspberries, since this area has become the most famous for producing this kind of fruit. Transfer to the Milicevo village whose climate represents the gift from the God for producing plum and plum brandy. Tasting Zlatna biserka, the plum brandy produced of the best varieties of plums by the traditional technology and by keeping it for many years in the cellar called Biser (Pearl). It is well known that the older plum brandy is the better it is. After tasting, music programme is organized until late in the night. Accomodation is provided in the village households with kind hosts. Overnight.

Day 2
After breakfast we continue traveling along the plum brandy road arriving in another well known village, the village of Karan. The village is famous not only by plum brandy but also by the old White church of Karan. Visit to another family well known for producing plum brandy. The Ivanovic family produces Zlatna dolina (Golden Valley). Zlatna dolina is produced in the traditional way without using chemicals in plum producing and without using additives in producing plum brandy. It is kept for many years in oak barrels that additionaly add to its quality. Zlatna dolina is completely a natural product, best of its kind among plum brandies. Tasting and music programme organized until late in the night. Accomodation is provided in the village households with kind hosts. Overnight.

Day 3
Breakfast. The road takes us further to mountain Tara and Bajina Basta. You will meet yet another family that knows all the secrets of the good plum brandy. Radisav Bogdanovic reveals one of the secrets:
The secret is in small secrets. One of them is love between oakwood and plum brandy. The longer love between them lasts, the better plum brandy is.
Radisav Bogdanovic’s family is the seventh generation that produces Sokolova rakija (Falcon’s plum brandy). Apart from tasting plum brandy, you will visit the old family house of the Bogdanovics, where everything started. Music programme organized until late in the night. Accomodation is provided in the village households. Overnight.

Day 4
Breakfast. The road takes us through Tara and Memorial home of the Tarabic prophets, to the village of miracles and a great pear brandy. Visit to the Carevic family and tasting pear brandy described by the host as a kind of drink that clears your blood and mind, and forms your character. Serving roasted meat.

There our trip ends, at least until the smell of fruit brandies and raspberries attracts you again to our region.

In the end, we will reveal you yet another secret. Another kind of fruit brandy was produced in our region. It is called Opsesija (Obsession) and is made of raspberries. If you want to taste it, it will be our pleasure to take you to Kosjeric to visit the Zaric family.
